History

The building was constructed in 1906, as part of expansion works on the Port of Arbatax: one of the contractors built the hotel structure as a base for the works. Once the work on the Port was finished, the Art Nouveau villa was acquired by the state and was subsequently rented to the family of Piero Torchiani in the 1930s. Piero Torchiani was a merchant from Lodi in Lombardy; he was married to Stella Mattera, who originated from Ponza, as did many of the original Arbatax families. In the 90s, Dr. Torchiani, son of Piero Torchiani, bought the house from the state for himself. He then merged it with the assets of Delta Srl, a company belonging to the group of companies attributable to him. In 2017, at the suggestion of his daughter Giulia, Dr. Torchiani entrusted the building’s renovation and conversion into a hotel to Studio Pisu founded by architect Massimo Pisu. Pisu brought the original walls back to their past splendour through a laborious restoration and cleaning process, in order to offer the visitor the visual pleasure of exposed stone, including stones from the Rocce Rosse. Using a skilful blend of colours, a lot of black and white in the floors, and elegant furnishings, Architect Pisu transformed the Liberty Villa into the Liberty Boutique Hotel for guests who want to feel at welcomed and at home in Arbatax . The hotel offers a relaxed and tranquil environment with unique outdoor areas such as the beautiful garden, the quiet internal courtyard, the splendid panoramic terrace and, from summer 2021, a lovely swimming pool.
